Breast Augmentation Procedure
What to expect after Breast Augmentation?
Just after your breast augmentation surgery, it is is likely for you to feel pain, stiffness, soreness and tenderness for several days. Pain relievers are usually prescribed and taken for 2-5 days until the pain subsides. Depending on your surgeons decision, you will usually stay in the surgical center for 1 to 2 days. Also, it is crucial that you have established stable vital signs and recovered the surgery without any complications before sending you home. Also, before leaving the center, bandages may be changed.
Typically, the sutures are removed after 1 to 2 weeks. You are advised to visit the surgeon to have it removed so that further assessment of any complication can be spotted immediately. An elastic bra is typically recommended to be worn for 1 to 2 months to prevent swelling. A medical support belt may also be suggested if the implant was inserted through your armpit so that the formed canal will be supported. Also, it is usually used if the implant is placed under the muscle to create a downward force. The length and time of wearing it is prescribed by your surgeon.

First week after Breast Augmentation
During first week after surgery, it is necessary to have someone to support and help you. Routine and lighter house works are only resumed after 2 weeks, but still dependent on the pain level and tolerance. Moreover, you should avoid lifting heavy objects and stressful exercises for a month or two to prevent complications. It is also recommended to wash the breasts only after the wound is dried and healed.
Breast augmentation complications, what to do?
Once you notice any abnormal changes in your breast shape, presence of inflammation or hardness, you have to immediately report it to your surgeon to make sure that no complications have developed. In addition, it is important to practice regular check up after one month, three months and after a year. An ultrasound is the appropriate diagnostic procedure after 10 years to check if any complications have developed. Typically, the result of breast augmentation is considered permanent after 3 months.
NOTE: It is necessary to always follow your surgeon's advise. Medications, may it be oral or topical must be used as prescribed. Signs or symptoms of infection or trauma must be immediately reported. Most importantly, always remember that it is your right as a patient to know what to expect on the entire procedure. You are correct GmaGoldie. It is never an easy challenge for breast cancer patients. But it is nice to know that breast cancer patients are mostly fighters! As far as I know, the survival rate is getting higher. About 88% of patients survive more that 10 years! some even make it up to 20 years. Thanks for the comment...
